Traveling to Mongolia in summer offers beautiful weather, but the conditions can still be unpredictable. From hot days to cool nights, here’s what to pack for a safe and comfortable trip.


👕 Clothing

  • Lightweight, breathable shirts (long-sleeved for sun protection)

  • T-shirts & tank tops (for warmer days)

  • Light jacket or fleece (nights can get chilly)

  • Warm sweater or hoodie (for higher altitudes or desert nights)

  • Waterproof windbreaker or rain jacket

  • Sleepwear (it can get cold at night in a ger)


👟 Footwear

  • Sturdy hiking boots or shoes (water-resistant if possible)

  • Comfortable sandals or slip-ons (for use around camps or in the city)

  • Flip-flops (for shared bathrooms or showers)


🧢 Accessories

  • Wide-brim hat or cap (for sun protection)

  • Sunglasses (with UV protection)

  • Reusable water bottle or hydration pack

  • Small daypack (for daily excursions)


🧴 Toiletries & Health

  • Sunscreen (high SPF)

  • Lip balm (with SPF)

  • Bug spray/insect repellent

🔌 Electronics

  • Power bank/portable charger

  • Universal adapter (Mongolia uses type C and E sockets)

  • Sleeping bag liner (for extra warmth or hygiene in remote camps)

  • Binoculars (for wildlife or stargazing)

  • Notebook or journal

  • Snacks or energy bars (especially for long drives)

  • Small gifts for nomadic hosts (e.g. tea, candy, souvenirs from your country)


Pro Tip: Summer days can be hot (25–35°C / 77–95°F), but nights, especially in the steppe or mountains, can drop to 5–10°C (41–50°F). Pack layers to stay comfortable in changing conditions.
